Ecobuild To Feature Ancon Thermal Wall Ties Range

Ancon Building Products is showcasing its sustainable products at Ecobuild, including its range of low thermal conductivity wall ties. The wall ties form Ancon minimise heat transfer through a masonry cavity wall. Use of these wall ties can reduce insulation thickness and wall footprint. In addition to Ancon's stainless steel wire wall ties, this range includes the BBA-approved TeploTie.

The Ancon TeploTie is manufactured from basalt fibres and has a thermal conductivity of 0.7W/mK. Fixings with a conductivity of under 1.0W/mK are excluded from U-value calculations to EN ISO 6946. Ancon's low conductivity range is manufactured in a variety of lengths to suit cavities from 50mm to 300mm. Ancon designs and manufactures high integrity structural fixings and supplies a variety of construction sectors including residential, commercial, infrastructure and sporting stadia.

In addition to cavity wall ties, Ancon manufactures insulated balcony connectors, warm roof batten fixings and stainless steel lintels. Many Ancon products are fabricated from stainless steel which has an approximate 60 per cent recycled content, a lower thermal conductivity than carbon steel and is 100 per cent recyclable at the end of a long, low maintenance service life. Ancon will be exhibiting at Stand 2230 at Ecobuild 2010.

Baxi LZC Systems On Show At Ecobuild

Baxi Group will use Ecobuild to launch its Ecogen micro-CHP unit into the specification sector, part of the company's LZC system range. Baxi Ecogen is part of the company's range of low and zero carbon (LZC) system solutions on display at the show. The range is designed to help specifiers cut carbon emissions, comply with the latest legislation and help tackle fuel poverty issues. Baxi Ecogen is a wall-hung, domestic micro-CHP unit, available for specification by local authorities, housing associations and private developers.

Ecobuild visitors will see how the appliance's Free Piston Stirling Engine can generate 1kWh of electricity while the unit also provides abundant supplies of space heating and hot water for the home. Extensive field trials have shown that Baxi Ecogen units can reliably satisfy up to two thirds of a typical household's electrical requirements. Around one third of this energy can be used in the home and another third exported back to the grid.

The appliance is proven to operate virtually noise and vibration free and is no bigger than a standard conventional wall-hung domestic boiler. Baxi Group will also showcase a full range of low and zero carbon solutions alongside Baxi Ecogen. These will include the latest technologies from leading brands Baxi, Potterton, Main, Heatrae Sadia, Valor, Andrews Water Heaters, Santon, Elson, Baxi Senertec and Potterton Commercial.

Among the highlights on show will be Ambiflo air source heat pumps and Geoflo ground source heat pumps; Biomass solid fuel boilers; Solarflo thermal water heating systems; Heatrae Sadia hot water storage cylinders, water heaters and Electromax solar thermal electric water heaters; and Heat Box units for district heating system applications.

Visitors can also engage with Baxi Group's new specification website, launched at the show. The new website is designed to help specifiers explore and navigate their way through the complex issues and legislative drivers surrounding heating such as, Part L, SAP, the Code for Sustainable Homes and Feed-In Tariffs. Baxi will be exhibiting at Stand 1525 at Ecobuild 2010.

Caribbean Blinds Shows Solar Shading At Ecobuild

Caribbean Blinds UK has announced that it will be exhibiting its solar shading portfolio at Ecobuild. The company's products have create safe, comfortable and energy efficient buildings across the UK by limiting solar gain in the summer and allowing it in the winter. The system controls light levels, reduces glare, improves visual comfort and provides privacy but maintaining the view and connection with the outside world.

At the show, Caribbean will be launching its new and revised range of contract focussed products which includes folding arm awnings, window canopies, exterior screens and external blinds. The Antiguan Zipscreen will be featured at the company Ecobuild stand. The product is an external screen which mounts directly in front of a window and affords solar gain prevention as it stops the sun's energy before it reaches the glass, still maintaining visibility towards the outside and allowing diffused natural daylight through.

The key feature is the zip welded to the edge of the fabric which locates within an extruded PVC channel in the side guide, keeping the fabric locked in place at every position. This renders the screen wind-proof, suitable for exposed locations and ensures their is no light penetration between the fabric and side guide.

It also acts as an additional benefit as an insect screen. Caribbean will also be showcasing its range of Sattler screen fabrics which are PVC and odour free, with all the benefits of a typical screen fabric including flame retardancy, glare reduction and visibility through. Also on display will be its newest wire guided screen, Dominica, featured on the PassivHaus dwelling, details of which will be distributed at the show.

Dimplex Delivers Low Carbon Heating At Ecobuild

Dimplex is showing a range of low carbon heating solutions at Ecobuild, designed to facilitate the specification and installation of renewable energy systems. Dimplex offers a wide range of heat pumps, covering ground, air and water source models. A new range of high efficiency air source models offers levels of efficiency comparable with ground source units, yet without the need for associated ground collectors. The range delivers CoPs in excess of 4.0 even at low ambient air temperatures and is available in a choice of five outputs from 9-40kW.

The largest in the range, the LA 40 TU, offers a flow temperature up to 58C, although optimum performance is achieved at lower flow temperatures; 3.8 at A2/W35 and 4.4 at A7/W35. Where cooling capability is also required, the LA 35 TUR+ is a 35kW reversible air source heat pump, suitable for commercial applications. Giving flow temperatures of 60C, it can also be used in reversible mode for cooling, whereby it extracts heat from the internal environment.

Waste heat collected in this way can then be used for domestic hot water, or for heating a swimming pool. New this year is Smartrad, a range of wall-mounted fan convector radiators offering a cost effective, responsive and energy efficient alternative to underfloor heating or conventional radiators for heat pump systems. Smartrad allows heat pump CoP to be optimised with water temperatures as low as 40C. The range also complements conventional boiler systems, allowing improved efficiencies due to lower water temperatures.

Dimplex's solar thermal hot water system is available in a choice of 12 pre-packaged kits, with each of the system's components carefully selected for its quality and suitability for the UK's climate. Each Dimplex 2m2 collector plate has a gross collector area of 2.15m2, which is a larger area than assumed by SAP, providing improved performance over SAP default scores and meaning that the Dimplex range can help gain extra valuable points.

A range of hot water cylinders offers energy efficiency and flexibility. Available as a solar system cylinder with supplementary heat source for times when insufficient solar thermal is available, or as a conventional electric unvented cylinder, the range features high levels of insulation for plentiful energy efficient hot water. Dimplex will be located at Stand 1845 at Ecobuild 2010.
